Although we’re getting into the fall, Daria and the Hip Drops latest single “Soul of the Summer” is a track for any season. A New Orleans based band lead by Daria Dzurik, Soul of the Summer came together during the Pandemic with much intent and collaboration. According to Daria, after being depressed for 2 years and having a hard time with opening back up, she became inspired to write the lyrics to the song by reading poetry by Shel Silverstein. In case you don’t know who that is, Shel is the author of books such as The Giving Tree and Falling Up but also wrote some pretty great poetry. This might explain why Soul of the Summer is truly vibrant and full of color. To come from such a dark time and place, this song is absolutely wonderful and we hope to hear more authentically made music from Daria and the Hip Drops in the future.
Great band to listen to if you’re into: No Doubt or Pink.
